Budget- Budget shows the Revenue & expenditure of the government. The government in India often spends more than what it earns.

A budget can be a balance budget, surplus budget or a deficit budget.
 *Balance Budget- If receipts are equal to expenditure.
 *Surplus Budget- If receipts are higher than expenditure.
 *Deficit Budget- If expenditure is more than receipts.

Budget has two accounts.
1) Revenue account- It is a day to day account.

a) Revenue receipt- It is govt. day to day receipts which includes Tax receipts (Direct & indirect), some non tax receipts like from penalties on breach of law, surplus of public enterprises, fee charged on govt. services ex. Driving license etc.

b) Revenue Expenditure- It includes expenditure on law & order, subsidies, Defence, interest payments, Civil administration.

- Market borrowing from banks & other financial Institutions.

Type of Deficits-

1) Revenue Deficit- When revenue expenditure is more than revenue receipts.

2) Budget Deficit- When Total expenditure (i.e Revenue expenditure + Capital Expenditure) is more than Total Receipts (i.e. Revenue receipts + Capital receipts) is termed as budget deficit.

Data: Data is a collection of unprocessed items. Data is information required by the computer to be able to operate or to put it the other way information we put into the computer is called data. The term data is often used to distinguish binary machine-readable information from textual human-readable information. For example, some applications make a distinction between data files (files that contain binary data) and text files (files that contain ASCII data).In database management systems, data files are the files that store the database information, whereas other files, such as index files and data dictionaries, store administrative information, known as metadata.

Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account' (BSBDA)


Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account (BSBDA) makes it convenient for all(including poor and weaker sections) to avail of basic banking services without any fees or charges, and without maintaining any minimum balance in the account. Banks are required to convert the existing 'no-frills' accounts’ into 'Basic Savings Bank Deposit Accounts'. All the existing 'No-Frill' accounts may be treated as BSBDA accounts from the date of the circular i.e., August 22, 2012.
An individual is eligible to have only one 'Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account' in one bank. Holders of 'Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account' will not be eligible for opening any other savings account in that bank. If a customer has any other existing savings account in that bank, he / she will be required to close it within 30 days from the date of opening a 'Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account'.

1.  Foreign Direct Investment (FDI): FDI refers to investment in a foreign country where the investor retains the control over the investment. It means that a foreign investor generally an MNC invest in a country by way of setting up a plant, project or factory. They come with an intention of producing a commodity, construction of some infrastructure, providing some services (like Banking, Insurance, Aviation etc.) or technology. FDI is the most preferred form of Foreign Capital because it is stable, it is for long term and adds productive capacity to economy.

FDI can come to a nation through following routes:

You might have heard about: 29% FDI is allowed under Automatic route and 76% FDI is allowed under FIPB route. So here is the detail about the FDI routes.

a.    Automatic Route: Under this, a foreign investor does not require a prior approval of RBI before investing in INDIA. It has to inform within one month to RBI of bringing its Capital. Further, within next one month it has to inform RBI of issuing shares to non-resident Indians.

b.    Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB): Under this, a foreign investor has to seek a prior approval of FIPB before investing in India. FIPB was set up in 1992. The sectors and industries for which FIPB approval is needed may be those:

·         Activities requiring industrial license
·         Small Scale Industries
·         Industry where the Foreign investor already have a joint venture etc.

c.    NRIs and Overseas Corporate Bodies (OCB): Under this, government encourages NRI and OCB to invest in INDIA. Most of this are owned by NRIs.

Basel accord refers to a set of agreements set up by Basel Committee on Bank Supervision (BCBS), which provides recommendations on banking, regulations in regards to capital risk, market risk and operational risk. The purpose of the accord is to ensure that financial institutions have enough capital on account to meet obligations and absorb unexpected losses.

BASEL-1
Basel-1 is the round of deliberations by central bankers from around the world, and in 1998, the BCBS published a set of minimal capital requirements for banks.It is the first accord in the series of Basel norms. Basel-1 primarily focus on credit risk. Assets of banks are classified and grouped in five categories according to credit risk, carrying risk weights of zero, ten, twenty, fifty, and up to one hundred percent. Banks with international presence are required to hold capital equal to 8 per cent of the risk-weighted assets. It was enforced by law in the Group of Ten (G-10) countries in 1992 but Japan banks permitted an extended transition period.
